Across six short videos, explore what the Right to Repair means in practice: from the EU regulations shaping a more circular economy, to the economic and environmental benefits of choosing repair over replacement, to the new green jobs this transition is creating. The series closes with a look at the challenges ahead and concrete recommendations for consumers, businesses, and public institutions.

Chapter 1 – The Right to Repair: What It Is
Every year, the EU generates 35 million tonnes of waste — much of it from products that could have been fixed instead of thrown away. This introductory chapter explores why Europeans are increasingly choosing to replace rather than repair, and how the new Right to Repair Directive aims to reverse that trend. Discover the five pillars of the standard, from repair obligations for manufacturers to easier access to spare parts and repair information.

Chapter 3 – Ecodesign Regulation & Digital Product Passport
What happens before a product even reaches the shelf? This chapter looks upstream to product design, introducing the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and its flagship tool: the Digital Product Passport. Learn how this digital “identity card” for products will track durability, spare parts availability, and environmental impact — and why designing for repairability matters as much as the right to repair itself.

Chapter 5 – Right to Repair and Green Jobs
The shift toward repairable products isn’t only reshaping consumption — it’s creating new careers. This chapter explores the emerging job market driven by the Right to Repair, from repair technicians and component refurbishment specialists to newly in-demand roles like the Ecodesign Project Manager, Sustainable Innovation Manager, and Environmental R&D Manager.

Chapter 2 – The Stages of the Right to Repair Standard
Trace the legal and cultural journey behind the Right to Repair, from the EU’s 2015 Circular Economy Strategy to the landmark Directive 2024/1799, which entered into force in July 2024. This chapter walks through the key milestones — the WEEE Directive, the Ecodesign Directive, and the Circular Economy Action Plan — showing how repair became a cornerstone of EU sustainability policy, and which products are covered today.

Chapter 4 – Sustainable Consumption
Repairing isn’t just good for the planet — it’s good for your wallet too. This chapter unpacks the environmental and economic case for repair, from projected savings in resources and emissions to billions in economic benefits over the next 15 years. It also tackles planned obsolescence head-on and shines a light on Repair Cafés, the grassroots spaces turning repair into a community habit.

Chapter 6 – Challenges, Future Perspectives and Policy Recommendations
The final chapter looks ahead: what still stands in the way of making repair the norm, and what can be done about it. Featuring policy recommendations for consumers, companies, and public institutions, plus an in-depth policy reflection drawn from REPper focus groups and roundtables across Euro-MED regions — complete with an annex of transferable good-practice models, from repair hubs to tool-lending libraries.
