19/10/2024
On Saturday 19 October 2024, as part of the National Repair Days and the REPper Festival held in Marseille, the Recyclerie Sportive of Marseille joined forces with AVITEM and the Regional Network of Ressourceries PACA for a festive day highlighting repair and reuse local actors.

This event is part of the REPper project, funded by the Interreg Euro-MED programme of the European Commission.

Program of the day: repair, recycle, create!

The Festival of Self-Repair took place at the Recyclerie Sportive of Marseille, offering an opportunity to explore this community space that collects, refurbishes, and redistributes second-hand equipment at affordable prices.

The day featured skill-sharing sessions on repairing everyday items, workshops led by local associations specializing in repair and reuse.

This free, family-friendly event welcomed all to learn simple techniques to extend the life of objects, gain useful and sustainable skills, and become active participants in the circular economy.

Repair Workshops

Fix it together! From small appliances, computers, and jewelry to nautical gear, inflatable items, bikes, and sewing—whether by hand or machine.

Upcycling Workshops

Transforming T-shirts into tote bags, crafting decorative items from cardboard, creating custom light fixtures and jewelry, building an electric balance bike step by step.

Introductory Workshops

Bike mechanics, to learn the fundamentals of maintaining and repairing hydraulic braking systems, and preparing for independent bike travel.

Welding basics, to make your first arc welds for metal repairs and creations.

A strong turnout

The event drew over 200 attendees, a diverse crowd that contributed to the day’s success. All free workshops, requiring prior registration, were fully booked throughout the day.

The festival kicked off on Friday 18 October 2024, with a morning dedicated to school group visits. These educational tours focused on the importance of repair and reuse, as well as professional opportunities in these sectors.

Beyond the hands-on activities, the event featured a lively and welcoming atmosphere, complete with a refreshment stand and light snacks. The day culminated in a musical evening on the rooftop terrace.

The public’s enthusiasm for the Recyclerie Sportive of Marseille translated into record sales of circular economy products.

See you next year for another edition!
